The Hidden Christ

This quote from Thomas Merton, " With those for whom there is no room, Christ is present in the world. It is in these that he hides," was the inspiration for this carving. Those enfolded within Christ’s arms manifest behavior, which at times, we turn away from. This approach is recognized in some form or other within all of us before we turn to also enfold them in our love. The copper pieces, representing humans, are in the shape of key holes to accent that by noticing Christ in the faceless and the hidden we open up new limits. This piece was just purchased by Notre Dame of Maryland Unniversity. I am happy that it will find a new home there in the first school for women in the United States to give a four year baccalaureate degree. The school was established in 1873 and founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
