First Week of Advent
In the Sunday readings of the scriptures during Advent this year we are reminded through the rich texts of Isaiah of the vision of a world without war. He poetically invites us into his vision. The name Isaiah means "God is salvation." During this Advent season we place ourselves within his hope of a better world.A few years ago I did this Advent carving which I will be sharing in its totality the next four weeks. Toward the bottom of the piece I depict Isaiah with his scroll. Up from Isaiah is David the author of the psalms with his lute. David sang out the goodness of God on a daily basis, a tradition we now carry on by praying his 150 psalms. This week we take our clue from David's Psalm 122 used on Sunday,"Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord."
