Paths of Peace

Happy New Year ! I hope it will be a great year for all of you. Today is also a day to pray for World Peace. I thought that this carving would be an appropriate one for this day, to get us reflecting on peace and what our role is in seeing its fulfillment. The piece bids us to consider anew the call of God in the world. The Jewish shofar (horn) announces a new time that we are called to participate in. We are always trying to usher in peaceand often pray petitions for that cause but only until we are at peace within, will peace begin to gel without. The hands raised above the shepherd in the orans position are a constant reminder of the stance we are called to embrace to bring about peace. Together with all religions, we pray for peace. We find a door in the carving which hopefully opens if we choose this new way of life and living. The shepherd stands ready to shoulder each of us into these paths of peace. For each of us it will mean something different and bring about a new life for us.
